Some of our favorite plant combinations...
Wild Strawberry, Virginia Bluebells (mertensia virginica), lavender, and common day lilies. Plant in full sun, water if neccessary.
---No, we do not sell lavender and day lillies, but we enjoy them in our gardens! Ask a friend for lavender and day lillies; for heaven's sake, don't buy them!
Maidenhair Fern, hostas, Trillium Grandiflorum, and Shooting Stars, for good measure throw in some white-bloomed domestic flower. Plant in part shade!
--- Once again, we mixed in some plants we don't sell. Hostas, and a domestic flower (I personally like geraniums), but using native plants with other heirloom plants is a great way to add variety and beauty! And, heirloom plants like hostas are soo easy to find--ask a friend!
Mix Wild Leek into your garden, the deer don't like them. And they are delicious in soups and dishes!
Plant Jack-in-the-pulpit with your kids, take care where you plant them, and watch how tall they grow! Jack-in-the-pulpit can reach tremendous heights with the proper enviroment.
Plant Cowslips/Marsh Marigold (caltha palustris) in wet ditches or drainage areas. They love the dampness and will help beautify and restore your landscape!
Did you know---our #1 selling plant is the Ostrich Fern. We sell a variety native only to the northernmost part of the United States. Ostrich Fern fronds are edible and used as delicacies in salads (try getting your kids to eat them!). They are also one of the most stately, adaptable, and easily grown fern that we carry.
Did you know---contrary to it's name, Sensitive Fern are not sensitive. In fact, they are very tolerant of varied conditions, we recommend them quite often for landscapes. Could they be the plant for you?
Did you know---the best time to plant ferns is the fall? Ferns growing season is over in the fall, planting them immediately before dormacy (winter) allows the best growing season. Although planting in the spring is perfectly acceptable, don't be scared away from trying fall planting. Many ferns and wildflowers are treated like bulbs, and planting in the fall is most recommended!
